Collinsville Axe Factory Office Space Update

\"\"
Things are coming along slowly but surely. We\’ve gutted about 140lbs of dust and filth, nuked a wall splitting the room in half, killed about 900 spiders. If all goes well we will be moving our stuff in the week of August first (knock on wood)

Please pardon the mess, the maid is on vacation

Still working out a bunch of kinks in this new theme. Too busy with client work to tinker with this right now.

Day One of SXSW, Hell Yes.

As you can probably tell by the complete lack of updates, I completely suck at this blogging crap. I\’m not only fine with that fact, I am actually pretty happy I can\’t be called a blogger. I\’m much better at composing thoughts in 140 chars or less, but here are the highlights of the day:

Mice are stupid.

There are lots of mice in this office. It\’s an old grain barn, gaps between most beams, I\’m sure it\’s a regular romper room up there for small creatures. Plus, I\’ve been watching the wood scrapings accumulate on my floor at the base of where a beam meets a support. No big deal, not my problem. I look in, and sure enough there are candy wrapper pieces, random chunks of foil, etc lining the little den it has claimed. whatever, that explains the scraping noises i keep hearing at night.

I like little most small cute creatures so i decided to share my clif bar with the little fellow. I put a glob the size of a peanut up there for him to feast upon. about 5 minutes later I hear scrape scrape plop. Figuring maybe i had left it on the edge of the wood or maybe he accidentally bumped it, i put the crap back up there. A few minutes later the same thing happens. A third time yields the same result: the ingrateful little fucker shoved my kindness out onto the floor three friggin times. Yet, when i left a banana or plant on my desk he nibbles / shits / pisses all over the place. Yeah, you\’re a real toughguy mister mouse.

I Can Has an Office!

The planets decided to properly align for me towards the end of 2008, and I found a nice little office space to move into. A developer who jumped ship from ESPN had an extra room in the space he was renting and hooked me the hell up. The building seems like an old 1800s barn or farm building that was redone and it\’s pretty damn cool. The price is right and the view is fantastic.

For the World of Warcraft Addicts

For the World of Warcraft addicts out there.. I made a pretty sweet Undercity ringtone for my new iPhone 3g. Drag to iTunes and enjoy! (mediafire mirror)

Oh yeah, that “blogging” thing that I told myself I’d keep up with..

Let’s see, where did I leave off.. Last thing I remember writing about (or at least thinking about writing about) was AEA Boston. That came and went (insert muffled farting noise).. It was great chillin with Joel, Tim and Brad, but I’m not so sure I will be going back next year. I’m sure it’s great if your boss is paying for it, but when it’s directly out of my pocket it makes me a lot more critical of what I am actually getting out of it. I’m not necessarily dissapointed but I just don’t feel they really delivered what I expected after reading the site. Oh well, live and learn.

What else.. Trying to get outside quite a bit, enjoying the weather when possible (ie when not SWAMPY).. Also trying to find time between jobs and yardwork to play drisbee with Apache and grilling whenever possible. My bass boat project is coming along nicely. Unfortunately its probably the most time sensitive of my endless list of projects but also the least important. Such is life..

The most pleasant suprise so far this summer is how busy I have been with freelance clients.. Especially since I haven’t even started whoring myself out on job sites at all. Hooked up with a great little agency out of Venice Beach and am doing some actionscript work for them. It’s nice when clients genuinely appreciate busting your ass for them AND the project is fun to top it off. Good stuff.
Been keeping really busy with a local agency as well. Used to work there about 9 years ago and it was great walking back in and seeing so many familiar faces. There I’ve been doing some cool website, banner, email and interface design for them and they have been really supportive and awesome. That’s about all the keywords I can stomach right now.

I’ve slept about 6 hours in 2 days now so I think it’s time for some tivo, doodling in my sassy new moleskine sketchbook and a cold Virgil’s.

about

Hi there!
Kerus.org is the personal website, blog, portfolio, playground (you get the idea) of a web designer and developer by the name of Mike Russo. I hate talking about myself in the third person, even a the business sense, so enough of that. I worked at advertising agencies for almost the past decade and jumped off on my own in February of 2008.

How I pay my bills
I run the full gamut for web design and front-end development. I do everything from creating/tweaking layouts and designs, as well as implementing and coding them. Some of the tools I use and love are: Coda, Photoshop, Subversion, and VMWare Fusion. I love working in Flash but I will have to admit that the cutting edge techniques being used by experts out there are not my forté. With that being said, I can more than hold my own if something needs to get done. I also do print design work but I like to reserve that for working with bands or musicians. Meaning projects more along the lines of CD covers, posters, flyers and things of that nature.

What else..
When I\’m not stuck behind my laptop I try to get outside and away from technology when possible. I have a cattle dog that loves frisbees. I also have a small fishing boat which doesn\’t see my lake as often as it should. I also listen to a lot of music.

Need some work done?
Please dont hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss a project or would like to bounce some hypothetical ideas around. And hey, email is free.
