connecticut needs a build guild, or at least a reasonable facsimile

As a freelancer, one thing I really miss is being around with like-minded people on a daily basis. Maybe I don’t hang with the right crowd, but there doesn’t seem to be a hell of a lot going on in Connecticut lately. No offense intended to the awesome artists and bands, but gallery openings/showings/shows aren’t really my scene anymore. On the flip side, I’m sure I’m not the only one who would rather stumble barefoot into a fire ant nest than “tweetup” with “social marketing gurus” and “pro-bloggers” or whatever.

This is where I refer back to the title and reiterate that connecticut needs some sort of build guild type of jam. Salem has one, Philly has one, Albany has one, the entire CT has nada! So yes, in not so many words, I’d like to do exactly what they have already done. (Hope to hear back from these dudes, I’d hate to have to try to think of my own clever name)

Back to my point: I’m trying to put together some sort of a “web developer and/or designer” group to meet on a monthly basis to just plain hang out, eat wings, consume cold beverages and be merry in general. And if the copywriters feel they can behave they may even be invited too! I’m checking out a local put (in Torrington) this weekend that has offered to host the event(s) and even hook up beer/munchies specials. Fingers crossed.

i’m on the hunt for a new theme again, so it’s as good a time as any to clear some of the junk out of here. as a wordpress developer i actually find it very refreshing to not create my own themes and to see what other people are cooking up on a regular basis. not that any one is actually reading this of course.

So someone poked their nose into my wp files without permission and then my last automatic upgrade of wp went terribly wrong somewhere. Pardon the mess for the time being. Guess it’s a good excuse to do some spring cleaning over here.

Hipstamatic is a fun little app

If you\’re a toy camera junky like myself you will probably love the Hipstamatic app for iPhone. The problem however is that it will cause iPhone to no longer recognize your iPhone when syncing. I had a hell of a time finding useful info on the googlenetz so i figured i\’d post this.

If you use Hipstamatic and iPhoto is no longer seeing your iPhone in the devices list: you will need to delete all of the photos from your camera roll in order to use iPhoto again. Hopefully they fix this in an update. What a pain in the ass.

i\’ve had this domain name for over 10 years now and i have never had any real worthwhile content on here. i\’ve come close to having a function website a few times now but nothing official.

in the process of designing/assembling a portfolio site, now that client work has let up a little bit. separating work from pleasure a bit this time though; using separate domains for my own crap (here) and for my portfolio (there).

its 75 degrees out and sunny, enough of this crap.

DIY iPhone Macro Camera Lens

I was dragging ass this morning and stumbled across a pretty cool idea. Basically you smash an old CD/DVD drive and remove the laser lens thing from inside the guts. With a little bit of masking tape you can attach it to an iphone (or any point & shoot style digital camera) and take some pretty wild shots. Sweet spot on this setup is about 3mm away from the lens so you really have to get in there. Crazy depth of field action going on too, as you\’ll see… (The full size images look much better)

Collinsville Axe Factory Office Space Update

Things are coming along slowly but surely. We\’ve gutted about 140lbs of dust and filth, nuked a wall splitting the room in half, killed about 900 spiders. If all goes well we will be moving our stuff in the week of August first (knock on wood)
